Hot Summer Nights are made for Hot Summer Books.
First, a look back…
Recently, author Deborah Harkness published the incredible conclusion to the stunning All Souls Trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, & The Book of Life). Earlier this summer, Sydney Jamesson released the epic finale of The Story of Us, bringing what has also been called the “TouchStone Trilogy” full circle. These are always bittersweet moments for readers. We anticipate finales for months – sometimes years – but yet, as we read them, we also know we are saying goodbye to some incredible characters that have become like best friends, in a way. Great reads are made to be read over and over again – and inevitably, my favorite books (the print ones, anyway), are well-worn around the edges from long nights of reading and re-reading. All we can do is hope that our favorite authors continue to write and carry us along on new journeys with new treasured characters. One of my very favorites, Sylvain Reynard, is working on The Florentine Series (Book 1, The Raven, releases in early 2015); and another, Sydney Jamesson, is rumored to be writing again, which will make thousands upon thousands of TouchStone fans delirious with anticipation. So, as we look back, we can also look forward to new creations by the authors who ignite our senses and stir our souls.
Now a look ahead…
Another “finale” – of sorts – by another favorite indie author, A. J. Linn, is right around the corner…the clock is ticking down as I write this post. It’s a prequel to the other two popular books in his Gentleman’s Series (A Gentleman’s Affair & A Gentleman’s Secret), and as such, A Gentleman’s Memoir is, in true A. J. style, sure to be hot and hilarious (a lot like its author, as a matter of fact!) Stay tuned for updates, and in the meantime, it’s never too late to catch up by reading the first two books in the series.
