Book: Hummingbird Lake
Author: Emily March
Series: Eternity Springs (although part of a series, each book may be read as a standalone novel)
Genre: Contemporary Adult Romance, Inspirational Romance, New Adult Romance
Haunted by painful memories, pediatric surgeon Sage Anderson gives up medicine and moves to Eternity Springs. There she finds a place to call home, but even her newfound success as a gifted artist isn’t enough to keep her nightmares at bay. Colt Rafferty is about to change all that.
Eternity Springs is a refuge for Colt, a place to ground himself when the stress of investigating tragedies takes its toll. He has come here for a little R & R, but instead of relaxing, he finds himself fascinated by the mysterious redhead whose secrets beg to be discovered—a beauty running from her past, a heartsick woman in desperate need of the sweet sanctuary of a devoted man’s embrace. And he is just the man to show her the true path to peace—by offering her the healing power of love.
I didn’t think I could love one of Emily’s Eternity Springs novels more than I did Angel’s Rest – but I was wrong. Once again, the depth and development of the principal and secondary characters sets this series apart from any I’ve read in 2015. And while Hummingbird Lake builds upon the foundation of the first book in the series, it could easily be read as a standalone because of the seamless way Emily weaves enough information about the characters into each story.
You will fall in love with the male lead, Colt Rafferty – a frustrated, burned-out chemical engineer weary from the politics and back-door deals of the bureaucracy in Washington, DC. Your heart will go out to Sage Anderson, MD – a deeply traumatized artist, and a virtual refugee from her former medical practice as the result of the unbearable losses that haunt her every day of her life. You will meet Sage’s estranged sister, Rose, then watch as they struggle together to heal the wounds inflicted by time and distance. With all of the other supporting characters that make up the small town of Eternity Springs, you will feel like you’ve taken a vacation to a simpler, more peaceful time of life.
There are a couple of stunning turns in this book that will compel you forward – I could not put it down once I hit the second half. So you might cry a little, but you will definitely laugh a little too, and the best part is that you will be filled with the kind of heartwarming joy that Emily March is so famous for delivering to her readers.
