 About PROVOCATIVE

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for her.

My Review of PROVOCATIVE

Provocative (White Lies Duet Book 1)Provocative by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nick Rogers:
A hot, take-no-prisoners, alpha male attorney — nicknamed “Tiger” because he won’t hesitate to rip out his opponent’s throat. A commitment-phobic, career-focused sexual dynamo who’s as powerful in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. A man in pursuit of the truth about his father’s mysterious death. A man who becomes obsessed with his number one suspect…

Faith Winters:
A beautiful heiress fighting to save her father’s legacy, a historic winery in Sonoma, California. An artist who’s willing to sacrifice her art to save her father’s legacy from foreclosure after her mother’s sudden death. A woman powerfully, passionately drawn to the Tiger. A woman with layers, consumed by a man determined to unwrap them; and, if necessary, willing to use them to destroy her.

Secrets. Betrayal. Danger. Steaming hot sex. A mystery, wrapped in a conundrum, steeped in an enigma, set in the wine, art, and financial worlds of San Francisco and Sonoma. Characters that draw you in, electrify you and arouse you in more ways that one. An undercurrent of suspense woven into every scene.

What’s not to love? Absolutely nothing, except I want the sequel. Yesterday.

Provocative, Book 1 of the White Lies duet, is a scorching, suspenseful work of literary art. It is Lisa Renee Jones at her best (although her Dirty Money Series is still in the running). It is riveting, addictive, erotic and deeply mysterious. It also has one hell of a cliffhanger, but fortunately, book two releases in July. Given the set-up in book one, the second half of this story will rock your world and leave you hanging on every word from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and read it now, then pre-order book two, Shameless, as soon as it’s available. I can’t wait.

“I bet I can untangle you.”

At an airport baggage claim, Penny Darling looks up from her knotted mess of ear buds to find the sexiest hunk of man she’s ever seen. He’s got a military haircut, a scar through his eyebrow, and he’s rocking a pastel pink dress shirt like only a real man can. But Penny is on a man-free diet so she leaves the airport without succumbing to his delicious double-entendres…or his dreamy dimples.

PI Russ Macklin can’t take his eyes off Penny. As she sashays out of the airport with hips swaying and curls bouncing, he suspects they may share more than just sweltering chemistry. That suitcase she’s rolling along behind her? It looks a lot like his.

Because it is.

When he tracks her down, he holds her bag hostage in exchange for a date. Their night begins with margaritas and ends in urgent care, and Russ proves that Cosmo’s theory about a very particular type of orgasm was oh-so-wrong.

In Penny, Russ finds a small-town sweetheart with a very naughty side. For the first time ever, he’s thinking about picket fences. Penny finds in Russ a loving, caring man who understands the power of massaging showerheads.

But Russ is only in Port Flamingo for a week. They agree it’ll be a fling and nothing more. Because really, they can’t fall ass-over-teakettle in love just like that…

Can they?

99k words. HEA. Dual POV. No cheating.
Featuring a big drooly dog named Guppy.

Penny

There’s all sorts of sexy Russ-rustle-rustling as he tries on his clothes. It takes all my willpower to stop myself from running over to his changing room and pressing my eye up to the slats like I’m looking through a peep hole. He slings his shirt over the top of the changing room door, then steps out of his shoes and socks. I can almost hear a drumroll in my head and then it happens: his suit pants fall to the ground.
Maybe today’s boxer briefs are light gray, like a sporty heather gray, because that would just be…
I grab a random black dress off the rack and dash into the second changing room. As I shut the door, I hear Maisie saying something like, “Boy, I sure could use some help with all these sunglasses, ahem-ahem.” But I ignore it. As the rustling next door continues, I unfasten the knot on my sundress and let it fall from my shoulders, so I’m standing in my bra and panties in front of the very unflattering full-length mirror. I’m hoping it’s unflattering. It damned well better be unflattering. But then I notice a very faint bruise on my hip, in exactly the pattern of his fingers as he gripped me last night. I slide my fingertips along it and turn to warm caramel inside.
“What kind of movie is it?” I ask him as I finagle my hands through the spaghetti straps above my head and tug the new dress down over my body. It’s a size too small and hugs me like shrink-wrap.
“Romantic comedy.” His zipper slides up. “Workplace romance.”
Oh, God.
I shimmy into the dress and stare at my reflection. There are times in my life when I am acutely aware of that devil-angel-shoulder situation, and this is one of them. Looking at myself in the mirror, and I can almost see the two of them in position. The devil is a real vixen. Combat boots, and a raspy, sultry voice. No bullshit and a very respectable smoky eyeliner. She likes her music feminist and her tequila straight. On the other shoulder sits the angel. She’s a dead-ringer for my fourth-grade librarian. She smells like mothballs, her lipstick flakes off when she talks, and she’s big into smooth jazz. I hate her. Also, she’s pretty much always exactly right. Double-demerit.
The angel says, “Penelope Eloise Darling. Why can’t you find yourself a nice man with a steady job? That eHarmony questionnaire doesn’t take that long. Just think: you could find a nice Baptist minister in Tallahassee! At least you’d live in the same state!”
I suck in my stomach so hard that I feel dizzy, and try to pull up my zipper. Not even close. I cinch the fabric shut with one hand, suck in harder, and give it a yank. It bites into me, and I stretch the dress to the side as far as I can, testing the tensile strength of 1% spandex to its limit.
The devil takes out her hip flask and downs a pull of tequila while she considers her black nail polish. “Fuck that noise, Pen. You want him, take him. Boom. Done.”
The zipper finally cooperates. I don’t even look like myself, this thing is so tight. I spin slightly and look at my ass, over my shoulder.
Which is when the door squeaks open. I fully expect it to be Maisie, brandishing her Kindle and saying something like, “I knew I’d seen that jawline before,” but it isn’t. It’s him.
“Oh, fuck. Sorry, I thought this was my…” He trails off.
The desire ricochets between us like a pinball trapped at the bottom of an arcade machine. He’s in shorts that fit him like a glove, and a soft navy T-shirt, with a vintage Pac-Man logo, washed out and faded. And he’s found a hat, like a super-stylish baseball hat with mesh on the back. Plus, flip-flops.
I thought he was handsome before, but this, this… Casual, and carefree, and look at those shoulders. Peeking out from the sleeve of the T-shirt is the bottom edge of his tattoo on the curve of his massive bicep.
Here lies Penelope Darling, who died of a swoon.
He lets out a breathy, quiet whistle. “I’m buying that for you.”
The way he talks, that dominance, makes me feel like I’m some new but treasured thing. I’m not used to it, but one thing is for sure: I like it. Except even in my haze, it’s the angel that answers first. “No, no, no. I’ll never wear it.”
“I don’t care.”
Frivolous retail purchases especially for me? “We…should get to work.”
His eyes move up and down over me again so deliciously slowly that I feel a shiver up my spine. “I’ll show you getting to work.” He takes a step toward me, and runs his hand up the side of my dress.
I grab ahold of the hanger rack behind me as my knees start to get a little wobbly. “I’ll take you to the boardwalk first. Rides. Ball-and-hammer. Funnel cakes.” He’s reducing me to bullet points. I can’t even string two nouns and a verb.
He pulls his hand away with a frustrated grunt. “Fine. But I’m buying it for you. No arguments. Got it?” he says finally, and then heads back to his changing room.
The devil turns to the angel, who’s got her lips in a tight, prudish line. But the devil?  She gives zero fucks, and she raises her hip flask to me. “Here’s to romantic comedy.”
Toodles, Man Wagon.

My Review of Just Like That

Just Like ThatJust Like That by Nicola Rendell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve been a die-hard Nicola Rendell fan since Professed, one of the sexiest debut novels I’ve ever read. Since then, I one-click her new releases as soon as they’re available for pre-order, because I know I’ll want to read every book more than once. Nicola has a fresh, lively writing voice and a genuine talent for balancing just the right amount of heat, heart, and humor in a story that engages readers from beginning to end.

If you love explosive chemistry; dominant, drop-dead-sexy, passionate heroes; sweet, quirky heroines; and big, goofy, drooling, gassy dogs you will love this story. Even if you’re not a fan of “insta-love,” Just Like That will convince you to suspend disbelief. I happen to believe in “insta-love,” because I’ve experienced it; so I didn’t have to stretch my imagination too far to convince myself that Russ and Penny are a match made in heaven.

But, as always, there are obstacles to overcome. They have to convince themselves to follow where their hearts lead. And as usual, our hero has a secret. He’s holding back his true identity, for plausible reasons, but since all relationships depend on trust, it’s a secret that could unravel their relationship altogether. And then there’s the fact that they only have a week together to go from a casual fling to a happy ever after.

Their romantic journey goes from hot to hilarious in a heartbeat, thanks to an unfortunate seafood incident, a disastrous trip to an Urgent Care center, a batch of suspicious “candy,” and an enormous dog with digestive issues. Because of the compressed timeline, and the use of alternating points of view, the story moves along quickly, which fits the story perfectly. My one critique is that Nicola delivers a twist at the end that defies logic. It was a distraction that didn’t add to the story, but as a writer, I know that the characters speaking into our heads don’t always apply logic. In fact, they rarely do. It’s a sweet, happy twist, however improbable, and that’s just fine with me.

I’ll read Russ and Penny’s story again and again whenever I need a healthy dose of erotic, alpha male sex; a little bit of angst, enough to twist my heartstrings; and a load of laughs at our hero’s expense. These well-developed, loveable characters will stay in your heart long after you’ve read their story; and you just might believe that lasting love can happen Just Like That.

My Review of Dirty Souls

Dirty Souls (Sins Duet, #2)Dirty Souls by Karina Halle (Sins Duet, #2)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You don’t simply read Dirty Souls; you live it. Every gritty moment, every harrowing event, every explosive sexual encounter will thrill you or chill you to the bone. It’s a terrifying romance, an emotional thrill ride, and one of the most compelling novels I’ve ever read.

To say that the sequel to Black Hearts did not disappoint is a gross understatement. The second half of the duet was every bit as riveting as the first — but darker. The pace is exhausting, but perfect for the story. The characters are a complex mixture of dark and light, relatable, well developed, and utterly unforgettable.

As you might expect, the stakes in Dirty Souls are painfully high; in fact, they’re sometimes overwhelming. The danger is palpable from beginning to end. This book will OWN you.

But I’d read it again. And I’d read anything else Karina writes. If you’re in the mood for an erotic thriller that’s relentlessly suspenseful but ultimately rewarding, treat yourself to the Sins Duet today. It will stay with you long after you finish the epilogue, and leave you wanting more from this series and this author.

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence, and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.

What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year-old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?

Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.

But it’s a love with tragic consequences.

Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart but threaten their very lives.

Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.

And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.

Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh & Caleb called it home.

In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.

But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves.

It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.

Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires.

Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?

Book Review

Goodbye Paradise (Hello Goodbye, #1)Goodbye Paradise by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodbye Paradise is a must-read for anyone who loves an unforgettable M/M romance. Quite simply, it captured my heart, melted it, and put it back together. The story is unique and compelling, written in the alternating POV of its two primary characters, Caleb and Josh.

Caleb Smith and Joshua Royce grew up together on Paradise Ranch, an isolated community run by a stringent religious cult in rural Wyoming. (Fans of Sarina will recognize it as the same compound featured in her bestselling True North series.) But Caleb and Josh have something else in common: a powerful forbidden attraction. They’re forced to hide their feelings, even from each other, or face brutal retribution at the hands of their peers and elders.

Caleb, as a descendent of the Divine Pastor, is relatively safe in Paradise, but Josh always has been an outcast, considered weak — a trait that also makes young men like him “disposable.” It’s only a matter of time before he finds himself taken from the compound by force, bound, beaten, and left on the side of the highway, far from the only home he’s ever known. His only hope lies in a hastily whispered promise from Caleb — to find him and escape the pain of Paradise together.

Their journey is deeply emotional, passionate, tender, and sometimes heartbreaking; but it’s also joyful, funny, and heartwarming. You don’t just read the story; you live it: every joy, every fear, every setback, every heartbreak, and every triumph. And then there’s the sex. Initially tender and tentative, as they become more experienced and comfortable with each other, the heat rises to epic proportions, with a kitchen counter scene that might set your reader on fire.

Goodbye Paradise is a standalone novel with a happy-ever-after, but Sarina will make you sweat for it. The shadow of a lifetime in Paradise affects each character differently, sometimes putting themselves at odds with each other, or at war with their spiritual beliefs. And when a young woman from Caleb’s past arrives, seeking refuge in their new home, their future is anything but certain.
From beginning to end, Goodbye Paradise is a hard-fought love story. It’s also a story you won’t soon forget, with a cast of characters that will stay in your heart forever. A standalone sequel (Hello Forever) will release soon, so get started with this stunning duet today.

Black Hearts (Sins Duet, #1)Black Hearts by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG. This book. The twists. The turns. The questions. The fear. The suspense. The dark, erotic feel of it all. The terror of what lies ahead, especially for the one character I’ve loved from page 1, Violet McQueen, and the sinister antihero I’m still a little (no, a lot) afraid of, Vicente Bernal. He’s complex. Dark. Dangerous. Cunning and manipulative. Scary as hell. Sexier than hell. A deadly mixture of fire and ice, a man at war with his basic instincts, driven by demons straight out of purgatory. He’s captivating, and like Violet, you might find yourself enthralled, consumed by his power, his prowess, his presence. Until the point of no return.

This is not your ordinary dark romance. You truly don’t know who all the villains are, but they are literally all around you. And, as you might expect, at the root of it all lies a deep, penetrating web of the darkest, deadliest kinds of secrets. Family secrets. A lifetime of lies for Violet, a lifetime of cold-hearted, calculated murder and mayhem for Vicente.

There’s more deception and betrayal in Dark Hearts than you can imagine. It’s insidious and pervasive, so ingrained in the lives of the characters that even the truth feels like a lie. Like Violet, it will make you question everything you believe about the story from beginning to end. You’ll feel a dull ache at first, that morphs into a steady pain that resonates in the recesses of your heart. A pain that’s overpowered only by the silent, deadly chill that creeps into your awareness and seeps into your bones. And a persistent twist in your gut that tells you, in no uncertain terms, that there is no way this story will end well.

Dark Hearts is a paradox. It’s “The Godfather” meets “Bonnie and Clyde,” but even that comparison is inadequate. This is one incredibly powerful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, with a frightening twist that only the most savvy reader will see coming near the end. A deadly game is afoot. There can be only one winner, and there’s only one way to win. When the sins of the father are revisited upon the sons and daughters, all bets are off.

As this is book one of a duet, its ending cranks up the tension to unbearable levels, then levels off at a new level of terror. It will l leave you dangling off a shallow cliff, imagining the worst but still wanting to believe that somehow things will work out for the best. However, Dark Hearts will force you to think — deeply — about which of all the possible outcomes might be the “best” for all concerned. Because if there is to be any sort of happy-ever-after for Violet and Vicente, it most certainly won’t be the kind of HEA you’ll expect. It will more likely be the lesser of many evils, which doesn’t mean it won’t be satisfying; it just means you may have to redefine your concept of happy-ever-after.

The Sins Duet will continue soon; it’s conclusion, Dirty Souls, releases on March 17th. I can’t wait to see what happens next, even as I dread what promises to be one or more deadly confrontations. Still, I suggest you give in to the temptation to dive into Black Hearts now, and allow yourself the dark pleasure of a few weeks of breathless anticipation. You’ll need some time to think after you’ve finished book one; and time to prepare for what promises to be the ending you won’t see coming.

Highly recommended.

Pucked Off, an all-new emotional and sexy STANDALONE from Helena Hunting, is LIVE!!

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

businessman working on laptop  in black suit

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

An Excerpt from Pucked Off:

Armed with my clipboard, I walk down the hall to the waiting room. Lance is impossible to miss. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a sweatshirt and the hood is covering half of his face, he’s more than six feet of broad, hockey-playing man.

He’s so wide his shoulders encroach on the chairs on either side, which would explain why no one is sitting next to him. He’s slouched down so his head rests on the back of the chair, and his hands are clasped in his lap, a baseball cap hanging off one knee. His lips, plush and soft—I know since I’ve had them on mine; it might have been a decade ago, but I remember it clearly—are parted. He looks like he’s asleep.

I clear my throat. “Lance Romero?”

He doesn’t move.

Bernadette, the receptionist, gives me a meaningful look.

I clear my throat again and call his name a second time. He jolts awake and the hood falls back, exposing his face. It’s not in good shape. He has a black eye and bruises on his left cheek. There’s a fly bandage across one eyebrow.

Sadly, he’s still hot.

He blinks a few times, yawns, and smacks his lips, his tongue touching the split in the bottom one. His gaze sweeps the room and finally lands on me. Heat explodes in my cheeks and courses through my limbs, warming me from the inside out as he starts at my sneaker-clad feet and roams up over my yoga pants to my company-issued T-shirt before stopping at my face. I can’t look directly at him for more than a couple of seconds. I sincerely hope he doesn’t remember me. I cannot go there and also be professional.

I’m sure the smile he gives me has melted many a panty off a slutty bunny. Mine stay right where they’re supposed to, wedged up my ass.

I force a polite, professional veneer. “I’m ready for you now.”

Book Review

Pucked Off (Pucked, #5)Pucked Off by Helena Hunting
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you don’t read beyond the first sentence of my review, this is all you need to know: Pucked Off is absolutely the BEST. PUCKED. STORY. YET. Now, if you want to know why, read on….

Lance. Oh…..Lance. I knew his story would be deeper and a bit darker than the others, because every story in the Pucked series is unique and special, a little bit angsty and a whole lot funny. But this tortured hero, and his heartbreaking story, went straight to my heart. There’s lots of humor, and the usual assortment of crazy scenarios that only Helena can concoct…but this story has more depth, more emotion, and more impact than the others. I couldn’t put it down, and I know I’ll read it again.

Oh, the passion. Lance is passionate in a deep, and sometimes a dark way. He’s passionate on the ice, which earns him more time in the penalty box than any other player on the team, if not in the league. He’s passionate about his friends — loyal to the core. And he’s passionate about Tash, his undeserving, unstable ex, whose manipulation adds depth and drama to the story. Ultimately, he’s completely overcome with an entirely different kind of passion for the one woman who shows him what true love can be – his reluctant massage therapist, Poppy. (You might remember Poppy from a previous story, where she was a secondary character. In an unusual twist, she reappears in Pucked Off, making it a sweet, tender, second-chance romance and a deeply sensual, satisfying love story.)

Book Review

Damage Control (Dirty Money, #2)Damage Control by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a staggering read! I’m completely addicted to this story, but especially to its lead characters, Shane Brandon and Emily Stevens. Simultaneously dark and incredibly sexy, tender, yet dangerous, savvy, smart and strong, their chemistry radiates straight off the pages and their story will quickly find its way into your heart.

Picking up exactly where Hard Rules left off, the suspense begins immediately, as Emily is forced to reveal her painful past, and a dangerous secret. Aware that she has been living in fear for her life, Shane vows to protect her, even as he struggles to save his family’s dynasty from its self-inflicted spiral of corruption. The drama surrounding them simmers at the boiling point throughout the story, just below the surface, occasionally bubbling up to scare the bejeezus out of you, but always set to explode in all directions.

Damage Control is complex, full of twists and turns, heartbreaking betrayal and dangerous deceit. It will keep you guessing and holding your breath from beginning to end. (I know this because the activity app on my watch had to remind me to breathe a few times along the way.)

The stakes were high in Hard Rules, but they’re even higher now, and Lisa knows exactly when and how to ratchet up the conflict to keep you on the edge of your seat. I’m hooked on the adrenaline rush I feel as the suspense builds around Brandon Enterprises and within Shane’s wealthy, devious, dysfunctional family. I’m hooked on the fierce passion that Shane and Emily share, a passion that only intensifies as the tension increases and danger closes in.

Be aware, Damage Control not a standalone, and it’s not the conclusion of the story. Thankfully, there’s no dramatic cliffhanger that will make you toss your e-reader across the room, or send you off to rant at the author. It’s more like a soft landing, a calm before the storm. Like Hard Rules, Damage Control skillfully moves all the pieces in place to push the story forward, toward what promises to be a gritty but thrilling climax. To me, it’s the best kind of romantic suspense. I couldn’t put it down, and I’m ready to read it again.

I’m counting the days until August 8th, when Bad Deeds (#3) releases. I’m desperate to know who makes it out of this story alive, and if the love that Shane and Emily share is strong enough to last when everything else falls apart around them. I’m holding out hope that the villains get their due, with minimal collateral damage, and that Shane and Emily find the happy-ever-after they deserve.

Don’t deny yourself this smart, sexy, suspenseful treat. Start – or continue – the Dirty Money series today. I welcome your comments on this review.

 An Excerpt from Damage Control

“You make me remember I need to be good and right in my choices.”

“Do you ever question doing what is good and right?”

“There have been times when I felt like my hand was forced.”

“When you were a lawyer?”

“No,” I say. “I manipulated the law, as does every attorney, but I never broke it. I’m talking about when I’m with my family.”

“Did you go where they lead?”

“Not so far.”

“That sounds like you might.”

“I don’t want to be them.”

“You aren’t them. You don’t have to be them.”

“I know that,” I say. “But you just keep telling me so I don’t forget.” Her legs hit the bed frame and she grips my arms.

I lean into a kiss and she pulls back, her hand pressing on my chest. “Wait. Now it’s my turn to say talk to me. Are you okay?”

“Death happened. The one thing I can’t control. It’s not the night to push me to stop protecting you. Not tonight. Can you do that?”

“Yes. We can.”

“We,” I repeat, “and that word sounds as good on my tongue as I know you’re going to taste. I’m going to make love to you properly. The way I plan to many times in our future.” I reach down and untie her robe, letting it fall open; my fingers sliding underneath just far enough to tease her nipples. They pucker beneath my touch, and her lashes flutter, settling on her cheeks. “But when it’s over, I’m going to fuck you hard and fast again.”

I tug gently on her nipples and she bites her lips. “Look at me,” I order gently.

She opens her eyes, and there is desire in their depths, but there are shadows there too,. I do not think she intends for me to see doubt or uncertainty that wasn’t there before. That I do not like or wish to know ever again. I want it gone. Now. Tomorrow. Forever. I reach up and rip the silk tie from her robe, wrapping it around my hand, before I reach up and caress the robe off her shoulder, letting it tumble to the ground.

“Give me your hands,” I order, but it’s really a question: Does she still trust me?

She studies me for several beats, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly, and I do not know what she sees in mine, but she offers me her hands. I wrap the silk around her wrists then lean in close to her, my cheek against her cheek, my body touching her nowhere else. “Now you’re at my mercy.”

“Yes,” she agrees. “I am.”

“How do you feel about that?”

“Warm.”

My lips curve with the answer that is every bit the combination of sweet sexy honesty I’ve come to expect from her. “I’m going to make you warmer.”

“Promise?”

I go still with that question, which on the surface is innocent, but I wonder if it truly is or if it’s about those shadows in her eyes. “I promise,” I say. “And you know, I never—”

“Make a promise you don’t keep.”

“Exactly,” I say, and her reference to my previous words tells me that I am not the only one on a mission of trust, and I intend to deserve hers.

I bring my hands to just above her shoulders, letting them lightly touch her before beginning a slow caress downward. She makes a soft little sound that has my cock thickening and my blood running hot, but I won’t rush this. My lips follow, tracing a line down one of her arms, then the other. I lean and caress my lips over hers, a feather light touch that teases me, if not her.

I take her hands in mine, pressing them behind her head. “Hold them there, for me, so I can see all of you. Understand?”

“You intend to tease me incessantly,” she says, without so much as a hint of hesitation. “Yes. I understand.”

I wrap my arm around her waist and pull her naked body against me, my free hand on hers above her head, our mouths a breath apart. “I intend to lick every part of you, and then do it again, so yes. If that’s the definition of incessant teasing, then yes. I am going to tease you incessantly.” I close my mouth down on hers, my tongue licking into her mouth, a deep, hungry tasting I force myself to end far too quickly. “That was the beginning. Should I could continue?”

“Yes. Please.”

“Please,” I say. “I like that.”
