 About PROVOCATIVE

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and sometimes our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us.

The moment I walked into Sonoma’s Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments. Provocative because I know at least one of her secrets, of which, I suspect she has many. Provocative because she believes I was a stranger to her when we met, but I am not. Provocative because I sought her out, with no intention of touching her. But now I have. Now I want her. Now I have to have her. But that changes nothing. It doesn’t change why I came for her.

My Review of PROVOCATIVE

Provocative (White Lies Duet Book 1)Provocative by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nick Rogers:
A hot, take-no-prisoners, alpha male attorney — nicknamed “Tiger” because he won’t hesitate to rip out his opponent’s throat. A commitment-phobic, career-focused sexual dynamo who’s as powerful in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. A man in pursuit of the truth about his father’s mysterious death. A man who becomes obsessed with his number one suspect…

Faith Winters:
A beautiful heiress fighting to save her father’s legacy, a historic winery in Sonoma, California. An artist who’s willing to sacrifice her art to save her father’s legacy from foreclosure after her mother’s sudden death. A woman powerfully, passionately drawn to the Tiger. A woman with layers, consumed by a man determined to unwrap them; and, if necessary, willing to use them to destroy her.

Secrets. Betrayal. Danger. Steaming hot sex. A mystery, wrapped in a conundrum, steeped in an enigma, set in the wine, art, and financial worlds of San Francisco and Sonoma. Characters that draw you in, electrify you and arouse you in more ways that one. An undercurrent of suspense woven into every scene.

What’s not to love? Absolutely nothing, except I want the sequel. Yesterday.

Provocative, Book 1 of the White Lies duet, is a scorching, suspenseful work of literary art. It is Lisa Renee Jones at her best (although her Dirty Money Series is still in the running). It is riveting, addictive, erotic and deeply mysterious. It also has one hell of a cliffhanger, but fortunately, book two releases in July. Given the set-up in book one, the second half of this story will rock your world and leave you hanging on every word from beginning to end. Do yourself a favor and read it now, then pre-order book two, Shameless, as soon as it’s available. I can’t wait.

From the New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes DIRTY SOULS the much-anticipated, nail-biting conclusion to Black Hearts…

Violet McQueen has always been a sensitive soul. Troubled and misunderstood, she never realized her place in the world, nor her true potential…until she met Vicente Bernal.

From birth, Vicente Bernal has always known his place in the world – he’s been groomed to be a ruthless king. Yet for a man whose soul has become morally bankrupt, it’s only through Violet he’s realizing the worth of someone’s heart.

But at what cost?

With a deadly game set in motion taking them from the stark deserts of California to the steamy jungles of Mexico, Violet and Vicente’s forbidden relationship will be put to the test. Boundaries will be pushed, lines will be crossed and souls will get very, very dirty.

Because how do you choose between blood and love when both might get you killed?

NOTE: Dirty Souls is the second and FINAL book in the Sins Duet. You MUST read book #1, Black Hearts first! You can find my review of Black Hearts here!

My Review of Dirty Souls

Dirty Souls (Sins Duet, #2)Dirty Souls by Karina Halle (Sins Duet, #2)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

You don’t simply read Dirty Souls; you live it. Every gritty moment, every harrowing event, every explosive sexual encounter will thrill you or chill you to the bone. It’s a terrifying romance, an emotional thrill ride, and one of the most compelling novels I’ve ever read.

To say that the sequel to Black Hearts did not disappoint is a gross understatement. The second half of the duet was every bit as riveting as the first — but darker. The pace is exhausting, but perfect for the story. The characters are a complex mixture of dark and light, relatable, well developed, and utterly unforgettable.

As you might expect, the stakes in Dirty Souls are painfully high; in fact, they’re sometimes overwhelming. The danger is palpable from beginning to end. This book will OWN you.

But I’d read it again. And I’d read anything else Karina writes. If you’re in the mood for an erotic thriller that’s relentlessly suspenseful but ultimately rewarding, treat yourself to the Sins Duet today. It will stay with you long after you finish the epilogue, and leave you wanting more from this series and this author.

Black Hearts (Sins Duet #1)

Goodreads   |   Amazon  (affiliate link – also available on other platforms)

Book cover, Black Hearts

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence, and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.

What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year-old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?

Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.

But it’s a love with tragic consequences.

Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart but threaten their very lives.

Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.

And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.

My Review of Ransom…

Ransom ( Aces & Eights Motorcycle Club Book 1)Ransom by Logan Chance
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you enjoy raw, gritty, down-and-very-dirty MC romance with a healthy dose of suspense, lots of action and a breakneck-paced storyline, check out Ransom, the first standalone in a new series by brothers Logan and Jacob Chance. It’s a quick, adrenaline-packed read, entirely appropriate to the short, novella format typical of these two authors. Ransom is their first collaboration, and it’s virtually seamless, even if you’re well-acquainted with the brothers’ individual writing voices.

The authors use alternating POV, narrated primarily by Rory and Liam, two of the six Fox brothers at the center of its conflicts. Another brother, Finn, voices the epilogue, setting the stage for what I hope is the next story in the series.

While the book reflects many of the common themes of MC fiction — rival gangs, gang-on-gang violence, strip clubs, “willingly wanton” women, and forbidden attraction –, it’s not stereotypical. The deep relationship between the brothers, plus a few unique twists and turns, ratchets up the stakes, and therefore the suspense when the inevitable clash of the clubs reaches its peak.

Ransom has a generous dose of erotic, consensual sex that doesn’t disappoint. Let’s say that despite the violence, virtually everyone gets a happy-ever-after, one way or another — including the reader. I look forward to more of the Fox brothers when Logan and Jacob treat us to another story from the Aces & Eights MC collection.

Meet Cole…

I shouldn’t have remembered him.

He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn’t know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all.

But I could feel him.

The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.

The second time was different.

He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed.

That was just the beginning.

He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…

Cole Mauricio.

Meet Tijan

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

About Dark Protector

From the moment I saw her through the window of her flower shop, something other than darkness took root inside me. Charlie shone like a beacon in a world that had long since lost any light. But she was never meant for me, a man that killed without remorse and collected bounties drenched in blood.

I thought staying away would keep her safe, would shield her from me. I was wrong. Danger followed in my wake like death at a slaughter house. I protected her from the threats that circled like black buzzards, kept her safe with kill after kill.

But everything comes with a price, especially second chances for a man like me.

Killing for her was easy. It was living for her that turned out to be the hard part.

Author’s Note: This is a full-length romance novel. Explicit violence and hot sex included. HEA, no cheating.

An Excerpt from Dark Protector

“Look.” He pulled his pistol from its holster, laid it on the dresser, and began unbuttoning his shirt. “I realize this isn’t optimal for either of us. You don’t want to be here.”

I tried not to stare at the gun, but I was already trying to figure out if I could get to it before he could.

“You can’t.” He glanced at the gun then back to me. “I’ll always win.”

“Always?” I edged toward the door to what looked like a bathroom.

He sighed, weariness heavy on his exhale. “Yes. It’s what I do.”

“You kill? Is that what you mean?”

His face hardened, a muscle ticking in his jaw. At that moment, I realized how truly terrifying he could be. Built like a solid wall of muscle, at least six foot five, with a handsome face and eyes that went cold in a heartbeat. I swallowed hard and bumped into the doorframe at my back.

“I’m going to need to patch this.” He jerked his chin toward his shoulder, but kept his eyes on me. “But first, I’m going to take care of your nose and get you cleaned up.”

“First, you need to tell me why I’m even here.” I couldn’t keep the shrill notes from my voice. “Why did Berty take me? Why is this happening?”

He reached behind his head and pulled his shirt off in a singularly masculine move. His abs flexed, and his bare chest looked carved and hardened. Black ink trailed around his arms and met in the center of his chest. “Death before dishonor” was written between his pecs with a flourishing script. His fingers had individual letters on each one. Scars dotted his body—some long gashes with dots on either side from stitches, others that were rounded or jagged. He was a battlefield, his story told with blood and scar tissue.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin a review…but if you crave a thrilling, heart-stopping, suspenseful and seductive read, I suggest you one-click Dark Protector, a dangerously sexy new Mafia romance, right away. Then take a deep breath before you start reading, because I guarantee you won’t be able to breathe easily again for quite awhile. Dark Protector is seductively thrilling; in fact, it’s so dark and suspenseful at times I had to put it down and walk away. Even when I was desperate to keep going, I had to stop reading long enough to gather my wits before diving in again.

The troubled alpha hero, Conrad, a contract killer, is tough as nails and sexy as hell. The heroine, Charlie, has a painful history of her own, and without Conrad, she won’t live to see another sunrise. Like it or not (and in the beginning, definitely not) she quickly realizes she has no choice but to trust him as they work together to outrun another contract killer determined to silence them both. And although she’s afraid of the killer under the surface, she’s powerfully attracted to her dark protector. The result is an erotic, emotional thrill ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

It’s a gritty, sometimes violent story — the kind that fills you with dread but grabs you by the heart and won’t let go. Celia writes dark romance as well as any author I’ve ever read, with descriptions so stunning and dialogue so tight you’re not merely an observer, you’re completely consumed by the action, the characters, and the mood of the story.

This is a standalone that will take you to hell and back; but don’t worry, there is a happy ever after waiting on the other side. Believe me, this wild ride is totally worth it. Highly recommended.

Black Hearts, a Dark and Deadly Romance by Karina Halle: Book Review

A Review of Black Hearts

The Sins Duet, Book One

by

Karina Halle

Read the synopsis and an excerpt HERE

BUY Black Hearts on AMAZON…(click the cover):

Black Hearts (Sins Duet, #1)Black Hearts by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG. This book. The twists. The turns. The questions. The fear. The suspense. The dark, erotic feel of it all. The terror of what lies ahead, especially for the one character I’ve loved from page 1, Violet McQueen, and the sinister antihero I’m still a little (no, a lot) afraid of, Vicente Bernal. He’s complex. Dark. Dangerous. Cunning and manipulative. Scary as hell. Sexier than hell. A deadly mixture of fire and ice, a man at war with his basic instincts, driven by demons straight out of purgatory. He’s captivating, and like Violet, you might find yourself enthralled, consumed by his power, his prowess, his presence. Until the point of no return.

This is not your ordinary dark romance. You truly don’t know who all the villains are, but they are literally all around you. And, as you might expect, at the root of it all lies a deep, penetrating web of the darkest, deadliest kinds of secrets. Family secrets. A lifetime of lies for Violet, a lifetime of cold-hearted, calculated murder and mayhem for Vicente.

There’s more deception and betrayal in Dark Hearts than you can imagine. It’s insidious and pervasive, so ingrained in the lives of the characters that even the truth feels like a lie. Like Violet, it will make you question everything you believe about the story from beginning to end. You’ll feel a dull ache at first, that morphs into a steady pain that resonates in the recesses of your heart. A pain that’s overpowered only by the silent, deadly chill that creeps into your awareness and seeps into your bones. And a persistent twist in your gut that tells you, in no uncertain terms, that there is no way this story will end well.

Dark Hearts is a paradox. It’s “The Godfather” meets “Bonnie and Clyde,” but even that comparison is inadequate. This is one incredibly powerful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, with a frightening twist that only the most savvy reader will see coming near the end. A deadly game is afoot. There can be only one winner, and there’s only one way to win. When the sins of the father are revisited upon the sons and daughters, all bets are off.

As this is book one of a duet, its ending cranks up the tension to unbearable levels, then levels off at a new level of terror. It will l leave you dangling off a shallow cliff, imagining the worst but still wanting to believe that somehow things will work out for the best. However, Dark Hearts will force you to think — deeply — about which of all the possible outcomes might be the “best” for all concerned. Because if there is to be any sort of happy-ever-after for Violet and Vicente, it most certainly won’t be the kind of HEA you’ll expect. It will more likely be the lesser of many evils, which doesn’t mean it won’t be satisfying; it just means you may have to redefine your concept of happy-ever-after.

The Sins Duet will continue soon; it’s conclusion, Dirty Souls, releases on March 17th. I can’t wait to see what happens next, even as I dread what promises to be one or more deadly confrontations. Still, I suggest you give in to the temptation to dive into Black Hearts now, and allow yourself the dark pleasure of a few weeks of breathless anticipation. You’ll need some time to think after you’ve finished book one; and time to prepare for what promises to be the ending you won’t see coming.

Highly recommended.
